{"id":13,"date":"2024-07-02T17:39:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T17:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cheatmountainvista.com\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2024-07-22T16:50:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T16:50:19","slug":"a-homepage-section","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cheatmountainvista.com\/index.php\/a-homepage-section\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cheat Mountain Area"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cheat Mountain traverses the entire length of central\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Randolph_County,_West_Virginia\">Randolph County, West Virginia<\/a>, from a northern point just west of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parsons,_West_Virginia\">Parsons<\/a>\u00a0to a southern point about 5.5 miles (8.9\u00a0km) south of the Randolph\/<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pocahontas_County,_West_Virginia\">Pocahontas<\/a>\u00a0county line, near the community of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stony_Bottom,_West_Virginia\">Stony Bottom<\/a>, where it impinges upon\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Back_Allegheny_Mountain\">Back Allegheny Mountain<\/a>. All but the northernmost 4 miles (6.4\u00a0km) and the southernmost 5.5 miles (8.9\u00a0km) are within Randolph County. The western flank of Cheat Mountain is skirted by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Route_219\">U.S. Route 219<\/a>\u00a0which connects a string of communities in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tygart_Valley_River\">Tygart River Valley<\/a>\u00a0(notably, from north to south, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Montrose,_West_Virginia\">Montrose<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kerens,_West_Virginia\">Kerens<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elkins,_West_Virginia\">Elkins<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beverly,_West_Virginia\">Beverly<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Huttonsville,_West_Virginia\">Huttonsville<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Valley_Head,_West_Virginia\">Valley Head<\/a>). The eastern flank, overlooking the valley of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shavers_Fork\">Shavers Fork<\/a>, is more remote. Cheat Mountain is crossed (east\/west) by two federal highways:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Route_33\">U.S. Route 33<\/a>\u00a0in its northern third and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Route_250\">U.S. Route 250<\/a>\u00a0in its southern third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cheat_River\">Cheat River<\/a>, a tributary of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monongahela_River\">Monongahela<\/a>, is formed at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parsons,_West_Virginia\">Parsons<\/a>, just east of the northern tip of Cheat Mountain, by the confluence of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shavers_Fork\">Shavers Fork<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Fork_(Cheat_River)\">Black Fork<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"541\" src=\"https:\/\/cheatmountainvista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cheat_mountain_map.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cheatmountainvista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cheat_mountain_map.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cheatmountainvista.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cheat_mountain_map-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cheat Mountain traverses the entire length of central\u00a0Randolph County, West Virginia, from a northern point just west of\u00a0Parsons\u00a0to a southern point about 5.5 miles (8.9\u00a0km) south of the Randolph\/Pocahontas\u00a0county line, near the community of\u00a0Stony Bottom, where it impinges upon\u00a0Back Allegheny Mountain.
